Getting cockroaches under control can take a long time. For starters, cockroaches are nocturnal—they like the dark, so you might not see them during the day unless they're in large numbers. If you see a cockroach, you may need a serious inspection by a professional right away. Cockroaches hang out behind and under kitchen cupboards, behind fridges, ovens etc and reproduce quickly. Even if you have the cleanest house or business, it only takes a few to turn into an infestation. Cockroaches have long antennae and do not bite humans or animals, but they carry diseases and can make some people sick, especially those who are predisposed to disease because of their presence. As some types of cockroaches become resistant to insecticides, new products are being introduced quickly. Johnsons Pest Control technicians regularly discuss new products with suppliers and are knowledgeable about cockroach control. Depending on the type of cockroach, some treatments work better than others, so it's very important to know what type you have. Some gels may work, or a good spray with a residual product may work better. A cockroach vacuum is one of the best tools for a major cockroach infestation. Vacuuming up dead (and live) cockroaches as soon as you see them will reduce the population as they eat their carcasses. Be sure to vacuum and remove the food source as soon as possible!
